The Jaipur-based duo consisting of Badluck (Lakshay Singh) & Rbbt (Shivan Sharma) have gained considerable success in the last few years with their emotional and introspective brand of rap. With “Shanti,” they take their sound to a new level, fusing techno and rap in a way that hasn’t been done a lot of times before.
Bad Trip Symphony mix Techno and Psychedelic music in Shaanti
Bad Trip Symphony have at this point in time, really perfected their personal sound of hard-hitting emotional rap music. This new experiment into synth-heavy electronic beats where rapping takes a backseat was extremely interesting for me as it’s very rare to see in the DHH scene.
The production on Shanti is what shone on the first listen for me. Rbbt’s talent was on the showcase here. The rapid claps and hi-hat patterns conveyed a somewhat sense of urgency; almost like a techno beat. The groups name “Bad Trip Symphony” fits the act perfectly as the beat sounded exactly like that.

Now not to take away the credit from Badluck’s rapping, the verses complemented the beat very well. Badluck’s influence from Eminem was prominent in the lyrics. It was clear that the rapping had the back seat here and the listener had to immerse themselves in the experience.
Conclusion
It’s exciting to see artists pushing the boundaries of what hip-hop can be especially in the Indian scene. Experimenting at the crossroads of techno and psychedelic rap, Bad Trip Symphony has succeeded in their endeavor, creating a super trippy mix that I hope ignites a line of collaborations like this from the duo. Best experienced with eyes closed, “Shanti” is an eye-opening experience.
