As per astrology, a full moon represents completion, abundance, and transformation, when the seeds from the new moon come into bloom. The theme of Darcy’s “Full Moon” is also pretty much the same. “Full Moon” is Darcy’s journey of hustling in the streets, the hardships he faced, and how it has prepared him to level up in life. This project is a chaotic wave of emotions screaming to the world that Darcy is ready to take the world by storm and the next project will be his transformation.
The moon’s gravitational pull on the Earth is the strongest when it’s full and this project is nothing but a testament to the fact that Darcy is ready and only success is gonna come his way now. But getting ready for success was not easy. He realized that the path to success requires you to be your own teacher [guru purnima], people stuck in the past are dead [atkeez], stay real [Jh@!], stay humble [B@d@L/C9], don’t sign the deal with the devil [N@r@k], and stay focused [Kinga Crimes Interlude].
The best part about “Full Moon” is its feature of being open to multiple interpretations. One can interpret it as a simple life lesson collection or give a spiritual neo-realistic angle.
Art in its full glory!
MUSIC
“Full Moon” is a collaboration project with multiple music producers – Fatboi Raccoon, Sohunnid, Babywxve, Eyepatch & Darcy himself! I have no qualms in saying that “Full Moon” is amongst the most sonically cohesive project in Desi Hip Hop. The fact that different collaborators managed to pull this off with ultra-smooth transitions makes this even more impressive!
Fatboy Raccoon gets credits for a majority of the songs from this project and it’s safe to say that he has done a fabulous job. Fatboy shows his incredible range in curating sinister trap beats and delivers each time. Considering his last project I heard was “Madhubala”, Fatboy Raccoon’s work in “Full Moon” was catchy and traps the attention of the audience.
LYRICISM
Darcy picks up from where he left off at “First Time” as the trapper flows on the beat with ease. The project starts with Guru Purnima and it is a nonstop bar fest by Darcy. Having a similar vibe of beats can at times force the writer to succumb to similar melodies but Darcy lives up to his reputation of being the OG trapper in the scene as every song of the project sounded fresh and head-banging.
Darcy really brought his A-game in terms of slang and native Bambaiyya references. From JVLR to Bachhi to Jhai ho gayi hai, the project is a good mix of cohesive storytelling sprinkled with native references and bona fide street language. My personal favorite has to be Jh@! where Sahir and Xxxifou did justice to the theme of the project and went toe to toe with Darcy. Xxxifou’s change in vibe is undeniably the highlight of the song!
FINAL VERDICT
“Full Moon” is undeniably one of my favorite projects to come out this year. Not only was it an incredible sonic experience, the artwork, the social media rollout, the visual teaser, and the literature has been nothing short of benchmark setting. Kudos to everyone included in the projects. Darcy is surely earmarked for better things to come!
