Last week saw the release of The latest single “14-16” by frequent collaborators Raztaan and YKSDOG, featuring Scoolboypax. As a fan and follower of Raztaan’s work, I have been intrigued by his promising presence in the rarely explored genre of cloud rap within the desi music scene for a long time now.
Raztaan and Scoolboypax’ Melodies on YKSDOG’s Music is a Killer Combination
Approaching the song, my expectations were set on a cloud rap track infused with trap elements, and I was delighted to find exactly that and more. Raztaan delivers verse after verse in his distinct style, reminiscent of artists like Playboi Carti and MC Stan. I thoroughly enjoyed the refreshing change it brought from the usual notion that “fast equals good rap.” Scoolboypax’s verse, although safe and typical of trap, ticks all the boxes for a solid trap hit: lyrics portraying their lifestyle and ascent, accompanied by an ethereal beat that transports you into a floating sensation.

Now, let’s discuss the beat, which deserves credit to YKSDOG. It is rare to come across exceptional cloudy beats, but YKSDOG nails it here. The beat is layered with beautiful synth chords, reminiscent of Whitearmor or Clams Casino’s signature sounds. The melody exudes a laidback and relaxing vibe, perfectly complemented by the hyper-pop-ish drums. Additionally, there is a subtle incorporation of a synthy-video game sound effect, akin to those found in many hyper-pop songs. This for me, prevented the beat from becoming monotonous or boring.
Conclusion
As a Raztaan fan going into the song, I emerged as both a Scoolboy and YKSDOG fan. The production of the song played a significant role in my repeated listens. By staying true to their tried and tested formula, the duo, along with Scoolboypax, have created another track that demands to be blasted through your speakers!
