Ever since news broke out that Indian-origin DJ / Producer KSHMR is all set to release a hip hop album featuring the stalwarts of Desi Hip Hop [Raftaar, Kr$na, Divine, and Stan to name a few]; the anticipation for this project’s release has arguably been the most in the history of DHH. Luckily for us, after much hype, “Karam” finally saw its rollout with the release of the lead single from the album ‘Haath Varthi’.
MC STAN, KSHMR, and Phenom Bring the latest Summer Banger to Town
The first thing that catches your attention when you hear “Haath Varthi” is the insanely catchy flute sample by KSHMR. Part of KSHMR’s insane range of sound packs, the Indian-origin hitmaker’s flute samples never fail to impress. From a technical perspective, “Haath Varthi” comes under the Baile Funk sound which blends funk with rap subgenres like Miami bass and gangsta rap. KSHMR hence contacted Indian hip hop’s banger churning machine Phenom to assist him in his production. Safe to say, the Mirchi hitmaker’s contributions of drums and kicks really elevated the song.
“From there, I asked my friend Phenom to co-produce it with me — he is a master of the baile funk sound and helped give ‘Haath Varthi’ the authentic percussion it needed.”

As far as lyricism is concerned, Stan picks off right where he left from Shana Bann and is at his energetic best. The Tadipaar hitmaker with his slick rhymes and infectious flow narrates the lit party scenes which he and his homies have. On a surface level, Haath Varthi’s lyricism is your generic party plug but KSHMR post-release revealed that there is much more meaning behind Stan’s lyricism.
KSHMR stated: “After playing through some beats, Stan instantly connected with ‘Haath Varthi’ – perfectly capturing the moment in our story where the gang is partying, celebrating their new wealth.”

CONCLUSION
If “Haath Varthi”, a commercial banger with depth and storytelling in its lyricism is the first track of Karam, it’s safe to say that KSHMR’s debut India studio album is gonna be lapped up both by the critics and the masses. Can’t wait!
