Capitalism in essence is the astounding belief that the most wickedest of men will do the wickedest of things for the greater good of everyone. This is the belief that fuels the corporate rat race, this is the belief that sells poison in the name of virtue and this is the belief that promotes comfort, the cousin of ignorance.
5 Sitara Pinjra by the talented duo of Sammad and 3BHK is a commentary on society, about its vices, its ignorance, and its phoniness albeit with satirical undertones.
120
120 is arguably the catchiest song of the project and sets the tone perfectly. Sammad with his slick rhymes and adlibs talks about the vices of our society through his anecdotal lens and is a satire on how capitalism has made us addicted to them. The song covers all vices from drugs to crime and can be a good shout if a theme song was ever needed for GTA Vice City!
While Sammad was at his energetic best, 3BHK’s work was so so crisp. Peppered with a constant trumpet loop on an old-school Nintendo game-type theme sample, the beat captured the high and fast life of today perfectly!
5 Sitara Pinjra
The title song 5 Sitara Pinjra is a slow-paced commentary on the concrete jungle and the conformist nature of our society. Everyone is comfortable with the bare minimum of capitalism and is under its illusion of comfort which prevents many of us to open our eyes to see the light.
The song is lyrically enriched with an array of quotables and Sammad with his laidback chill flow does an amazing job on a seemingly old school orchestral type beat. This song was a perfect mix of content, lyricism, and musicality!
Reality TV
Reality TV is my personal favorite from the EP in terms of musicality. The old-school guitar riffs and drums going crazy in the pre-hook are heaven to the ears. Safe to say, the last song of the project is a celebration of new sounds.
Sammad with his hard-hitting lyricism bares the naked truth out loud by poking fun at the phoniness of society with observational set pieces. The phrase “Zindagi jhandwa, phir bhi ghamandwa” embodies this song perfectly!
Final Verdict
Kudos to 3BHK and Sammad for trying a completely new sound in the scene. The project is catchy as hell and even if your life is the one described in “Reality TV”, you will still enjoy it due to the sheer musicality of the project.
Sammad and 3BHK’s chemistry is infectious and that translates well into the project. Big ups to the artists for also choosing a substance-heavy concept layered with a new sound. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed the project and I would certainly add this to my playlist!
