Released on the 1st of September, Frappe Ash and Rebel 7 joined hands on their latest single, ‘Tareeka’. With music from the Pune-based producer, Vedang, the track’s music video was premiered the day after. Tareeka comes right after Frappe’s recent work ‘Darubaaz’ and Rebel’s EP, ‘Kaafi Kuch’.

‘Tareeka’ is a drill track with a very quirky sample played in the background by Vedang. However, being a drill track the rappers didn’t choose to display a gangsta persona, rather, the track is themed around being true to oneself and keep believing in yourself even though times get tougher. What one might say is an inspirational vibe, the single defies all conventions of drill being associated with delinquency or blatant show-off. With references to the industry and their respective hustles, the song is surely a treat for all the young minds aspiring to be a part of the scene.

Another noteworthy aspect of the track is the unconventional structuring of verses, instead of a regular hook and the artist’s verses, the song features the capabilities of these talents and their spit game. The intro is a short verse with Rebel and Frappe sharing the mic after every 4 bars; this style is practiced throughout the track. Next up, the hook is again complimented by the rhymers completing each other’s lines. This is followed by Frappe’s verse which is again carried forward by Rebel 7, It is just so thrilling to see the rappers sharing the mic on the spot and continuing their verses with the same rhyme schemes and bars.

The energy of this track is perfectly presented visually by Vaibhav Yadav and Manil Kandwal. The whole scene, presumably set in a bar, seems quite cinematic thanks to the attire of Frappe and Rebel. Also, the black and white visuals with zesty stirring visuals contribute to the whole vibe the track carries. Vedang’s well-sampled drill beats deserve appreciation, the raw energy the sonic aspect itself puts in is unmatchable to any other track of the same genre. Even though one might find the hook a bit ordinary because of the delivery and lyrics, the way the artists executed their verses is enough to compensate for and recover the audience’s retention.
