With a crisp run time of 11 minutes, 18 seconds; Maashu doesn’t hold back in straight up getting into the groove and tackleing some disturbing topics in our life. Tragedies are a part of our life but the trauma they carry becomes a part of our behaviour. Starting with the intro, he perfectly sets the tone for the EP with a sample of 50 Cent talking about life and creating an environment for his family to persevere. Trauma travels through us in a way that manipulates our behavior, Maashu addresses things like crime and death which change the persona of an individual.
Mela is a beautiful track that shows how people can take different paths in life and how that can change the course of their destiny. The struggle to create an identity and the choices we make in order to create that identity might be small but they carry a lot of weight. He takes a worldview with an observant eye to power his lyrics. Crime, parenting, self-esteem, money, and greed are the world’s greatest motivators and all these things cement the trauma in us. Maashu represents his city and his life and the way people grow up in tier 2 cities. It becomes a glaring picture of our towns, the people in them, and how these towns shape our life and our minds.
Maashu tackles everything in an extremely subtle way. He talks about crime from a personal point of view which shows how it has shaped his life, he talks about the death of his close ones and the tragedy of seeing his friends go astray. Maashu used breaks and beat drops to create a flow that had impeccable rhyming. He showed us a quality that is not seen in IHH on a regular basis and that quality is a command over Hindi. The production by Deeking is in line with the theme of the EP. The versatility in Maashu’s lyricism was amplified through the variety of beats that were used in the EP. The production included an assortment of harmonies which resulted in a sonically diverse EP.
Overall, ‘PTSD’ is beautiful EP which captures the inner battles of an everyday person subconsciously and gives an insight into the artist’s vulnerability.
