From collaborating with Bharg on “Sab Chahiye”, one of the best albums in DHH released back in early 2021, to releasing bangers such as “Pew Pew” and featuring on “Ek do Ek”, Rawal has made his way into the audience’s hearts thanks to his ruthless persona and the gangsta bars in his tracks. The Delhi-based rapper’s last piece of work was in collaboration with Saar Punch on “Khudbakhud”, after which, he did not release anything for an year. “Tabla Faad”, released on the 28th of July, is Rawal’s comeback track in collaboration with a Mumbai-based producer Zero Chill.
The track is a classic example of bounce Hip-hop as Zero Chill cleverly samples a Tabla piece and adds in classical vocals during the hooks. Another production feature that adds up to the energy is the drum work on the beat along with the 808s. This layered production and different elements combine to direct the sound of the track in a zestful direction.
Rawal’s prowess is the guise that he brings in his tracks, be it his quirky gangsta bars or variations in his ruthless lyrics when he talks about any specific topic, his style always results in bangers. In Tabla Faad, he can be seen talking about signed artists faking their lifestyles and failing to gain an audience. Rawal, being an independent rapper, can also be seen giving shoutouts to some of the respectable labels in India while he also sheds some light on his independent artistry and how his style is undoubtedly one of the best in the scene. His flow switches and bizarre rhyme schemes are other aspects that beautify his verses.
“Ab shakal pe hai mask
Rawal
Phir bhi log hai pehchaan re
Ab shabd jaate atak jo bhi nikalte jubaan se
Ab 30000 fut upar likhu mai vimaan mei
Ab papa aagaye wapas to fir karo ab pranaam be”
The Music video of Tabla Faad, released on the same date as the single, perfectly represents the energy of the track. Directed by kyabc, the music video is shot in Bombay (home to the producer) and captures Rawal’s vibrancy, one example being when Rawal does the calculative bar, the video is divided into clips of the exact number the rapper mentions, this is a classic example of kyabc’s brilliance as a filmmaker. The Music video ends with a sneak peek at his upcoming project “Sherdil”.
