Dhanji’s “Ruab” is undeniably one of the most anticipated projects since last year. The Amdavad-based artist has been teasing his Debut LP for a long time and it is now predicted to come sooner than his audience expects. Dhanji recently played the album live in Delhi in a sold out show that he had produced independently.
“Album of the Year (Freestyle)” brags about this anticipation, and the cult-like following he has garnered. Released on the 30th of June, the track is produced by Rasla. The production features a harmonium sample followed by 808s and percussion. Dhanji, known for his flow and voice modulations, has a literal vibe on the beat. His flow seems to be stuck with the production’s highs and lows, which shows just how much he adds into a mere freestyle as well.
Although the track is termed as a freestyle, in some instances, it is a difficult fact to digest, thanks to the references he adds to his bars.
One of them being, “mannerisms of a young bobby de niro”, which actually is the first line of Jay-Z’s track “Bring it on”, also, De Niro played young Vito Corleone in The Godfather II and has been acclaimed ever since. Dhanji’s influence from Jay-Z is quite evident to his listeners as he often identifies himself as the “Gujju Shawn Carter”.
Dhanji also expresses his refusal towards going mainstream with an incredible cipher in his own way:
“I’m gonna be gone if i ever go mainstream
Dhanji
AWAL on yall, apna ekdum avval standing
Like gone and gone if i ever go mainstream”

Dhanji also talks about the delay in RUAB, heat in AMD, his memories, and climate change
The term ‘Freestyle” checks out as there isn’t any specific topic he is stuck to, he just flows on the beat and speaks about whatever he desires. However, there is one particular line that he keeps on reciting throughout, “Album of the Year my $hit ain’t even out yet”; which would be a generic braggadocious bar a rapper would say, except for Dhanji because it’s true. “RUAB” for many, already is Album of the Year, especially his fans and hardcore supporters. This line stems from the much anticipation of the LP that his fans have, some of them have heard a few tracks, a handful of lucky ones have already listened to it on shows, while some just believe in him owing to his past projects.
