Quest narrates a feisty storyline besides bangers in his debut album “Dushman”

Concept albums have a long and fine history in Hip-Hop, artists that tend to create storylines or narrate their own real life experiences in their debut projects end up building a core audience that resonates with them for a reason; their proficiency. Quest’s debut album “Dushman” that was released globally on streaming platforms on the 23rd of June, marks the zenith of his music career.

“Dushman” is an unique aspect of concept albums as we know it, it is full of bangers such as “Sarfaad” and “Bombay Bounce”, not to mention “Situation” and a posse cut “Dakaiti” that he released earlier. But, along with these bangers, he has also attempted to portray a small story that is conveyed via skits in the album.

Quest - Dushman

“Dushman” by Quest has 6 skits and 7 tracks that last around 30 minutes

With features from Tienas, Dhanji, ReVo Lekhak, Lil Kabeer, Bhaktaa, Sammad, 3bhk, Neil CK, Specter and production by  Sammad, 3BHK, Robu, MLHVR, Zealotantrik, Help and Tienas,  Dushman revolves around the Bounce and “Boom Rap” genres of Hip-Hop.

The story revolves around a guy named Kundan, who appears on a radio interview featuring Quest. The character is villainous, hence the name “Dushman”. He seems to be irked about something with Quest and seeks revenge from him about it. This plot is inspired by the radio show “Sway in the morning”. The radio show in the album is named “Gair Kanooni: Aakashvaani” that is hosted by Sammad.

The Music of “Dushman” is another thing that makes it Unorthodox

The bounce beats and catchy flows that he implemented in the album went well with the theme and shows his creativity. Quests pen-game shines bright throughout the project, flex bars, double entendres and significant references add a creative element to the sound.  The album is filled with BOPs that boast about his musical talent, as some of the tracks showcase his innovativeness and his refusal to traditional Hip-Hop sonics.

Quest’s unconventional concept album received immense love and support from fans upon its debut. The digital edition released on the label’s website was eagerly purchased and thoroughly enjoyed by his dedicated supporters.

I've been into content writing for a few months, and like to talk about whats rather unheard in DHH. I've been following mainstream and underground for a couple of years now and like to express about what i like in musical projects through words.
