Bagi Munda presents a cinematic tape rooted in personal anecdotes with “Betaj Badshah : Extended Play”

Story-Albums or narrative projects are quite sought after in the music scene. There are very few musicians that compose a story via their music and Bagi Munda is one of them. He always introduces his listeners to new tales that are inspired by characters and their actions around him, while also working with new sonics.

In ‘Betaj Badshah : Extended Play’, Bagi Munda collaborates with Dox who has been his longtime producer. The duo has always come up with fresh-sounding tracks that invariably stand out from the previous ones. ‘Betaj Badshah’ basically translates to Uncrowned King, and this term is often associated with Bagi Munda. In the title track, the ending features MC Amrit’s voice speaking about Bagi Munda and declaring him the ‘Betaj Badshah’.

Bags Munda

Bagi Munda has always Discovered New Sounds and Featured them in his Projects

An example is ‘Sanju & Sallu’, wherein he uses Memphis sonics while narrating a whole different plot. However, in ‘Betaj Badshah : Extended Play’ Bagi Munda tries to implement a 90’s sound while adding pop as a sub-genre to the tape. This particular sound selection that is carried throughout the tape, backs the storyline being narrated.

The tape features 5 tracks with 2 skits intertwined, and the storyline of the character being narrated ends with ‘God is Dead’. However, ‘Aamad / Children of the Ghetto’ acts as a bonus track, where the after-effects of the character’s death and his influence are discussed.

The Cover Ingeniously Symbolizes the Tape

Yungwuz takes inspiration from 90s film posters. Bagi Munda has also specified that the cover art resembles one of his favorite films ‘Agneepath’. One can see the pictures of the artists featured in the tape scattered around which again is a resemblance to the 90s era.

This tape is a very emotional one for Bagi, the character that he creates out of his mind, although having its own inspirations, is mostly derived from the artist’s own personality. It almost feels like watching a movie the way he sets up a roller-coaster ride of feelings and emotions as he talks about fame, love, God complex, being a better human being, and his influence.

I've been into content writing for a few months, and like to talk about whats rather unheard in DHH. I've been following mainstream and underground for a couple of years now and like to express about what i like in musical projects through words.
