“LOOTERA”: FARHAN KHAN AND GRAVITY TALK MONEY, POWER, AND THE URGE FOR MORE IN THEIR LATEST DROP

They say money can’t buy happiness and I agree. But would you prefer facing your mid-life crisis in your Maruti Alto or in your Lamborghini? I think the answer speaks for itself! Money may not be everything, but it is arguably the closest thing to everything! Life is simple, not easy, and who makes life easy? Money!

Farhan Khan and Gravity are two artists who have had an exemplary life of struggle before fame and success hit. They know what being poor means and now that money is finally flowing, their latest drop “Lootera” is all about money, its power, and the urge for more!

Gravity in Farhan Khan 's new song Lootera

Gravity and Farhan Khan Go Ham with their bars on Lootera

Lootera follows a simple Chorus – Verse – Chorus – Verse structure. Farhan Khan starts off proceedings with what sounds an average chorus at first but after a couple of listens, the melody and the lyrics of the hook start making sense. While Farhan Khan’s verse was more of hard-hitting truth bombs, Gravity matched it with witty wordplays in every bar laced with commentary on capitalism. One of my favorite bars from King Grav was the Nas bar where he compared his writing to that of the legendary rapper and claims he has raja ki bimaari aka king’s disease – which is a triple entendre –

  • 1. Nas’s album King’s Disease
  • 2. Calling his upcoming album equal to Nas’s album
  • 3. In medical terms, King’s disease aka gouty arthritis is caused due to its association fo rich foods and alcohol – a sign of wealth

Farhan Khan on the other hand casually dropped some quotables which I am sure will stay with me for a long time!

  • “Kyu khaali jhola rakhu me, maine dekha gareebo ke chhato me katraata hai aane ko eid ka hai chaand!”
  • “Paisa hai paani, paani bina phool kaise khilega?”

Special shoutout to Farhan who spiced things with three notable flow switches with all three being different in melody, tempo, and cadence!

Lastly, we get to the music by Mr. Doss who did a great job. The beat belongs to the trap genre with hi-hats and snares going ham in the background. The fast-paced kicks peppered with a looping sample of an extended siren match the lootera vibe of fast money perfectly!

Conclusion

Special credits have to be given to Farhan who helmed the video production aspects along with VMVN Graphics. The visuals, especially the color grading and artistic props were realistic. The Bella ciao tribute, which mirrored the rapper’s rise to success from struggle as well as a metaphor to lootera was also a neat touch! All in all, “Lootera” is a complete package albeit with a chorus that takes some time to grow on you.
