“Let It Go”: Fotty Seven pens a heartfelt verse on embracing vulnerability

Love is beautiful, but it’s equally devastating when it leaves because love has always been hard to find (unless you are what they term a fu*k boy). When something so rare to find, when something so endorphin-inducing, when something you have dreamt of being with eternity leaves; it is bound to sting!

They say love is like a drug and people who lose love can say why so. When love leaves, people tend to gravitate towards drugs and other serotonin-elevating actions to fill the void. People tend to feel low and act weird because they are nothing but withdrawal symptoms.

Let It Go - Fotty Seven

Let It Go – An Anthem of Acceptance by Fotty Seven

Let It Go by Fotty Seven is a song that talks about the trauma and stress that people go through post-breakup. Unlike the usual trope of drugs and toxic ways of moving on, Fotty pens a very verse of strength and control. He is proud of himself for not resorting to drugs or any other toxic coping mechanisms. He controls his emotions but that comes with a cost.

The emotions are palpable on his face, people can see the pain in his eyes but he shares nothing and it’s affecting his loved ones. Add to the societal pressure of the expectation on men to not show their vulnerability, Fotty’s mind is a volcano waiting to explode!

Lyricism And Music

Fotty’s lyricism in the emoji series has been impeccable. While Fotty has always been a master in communicating his thoughts in the simplest and clearest manner, relaying the same with vulnerability is not the same. The emoji series is a legacy project for Fotty because it is one of those few pieces which we can feel is genuine. It is not for the masses. It is not for the numbers. It is just Fotty speaking to himself and hence the relatability.

A special shoutout to the music which is entirely done by the rapper himself. The sampling, the lo-fi undertones, and the mix-mastering all are top-notch! Kicks and snares make or break any track and a simple loop of kicks in Let It Go does the job well!

Conclusion

On a symbolic level, I see this track as the outro to Emoji’s Vol. 1 which was Fotty’s take on the 5 Stages of Grief. Let It Go is the song about letting those dark emotions go and moving on because it is not just him, even the people around him are getting affected! It’s a song about acceptance and moving on. The sample of “Let It Go” echoes throughout the song which is a message to fotty himself and all the listeners to let loose and not choke themselves. As Badshah rightly said, “Jo Rota hai woh mard nahi kya?”
