His level of introspection and musicality is unparalleled and his work is a testament to that. The new single by Prabhdeep is a reflection of his current mental state – The Best in the Game! Prabhdeep Goes Ham; Backed Equally by Phantom Beats and Vivek Thomas!

Coming back to the single, Thappad is a fun rollercoaster of rhymes and flows by Prabhdeep on a ping pong esque production by Phantom Beats. Prabh picks up from where he left off at Hello as he is at his vivacious best describing his desire to continue ruling India’s cultural scene. The frenzied intensity of THAPPAD develops on his interpretation and love of the folk music and rhythms that surrounded him as a child and highlights components of his artistry that have been cultivated over a period of time.

The music by Phantom and the mix-mastering by Vivek Thomas however stole the show for me. The constant subdued wolf howls in the background [suggesting a transformation in progress] along with the iconic Prabhdeep “Yaaa” were placed beautifully. Phantom placed enough kicks and snares to make the song as smashing as possible.

Verdict

All said and done, Thappad is a smashing single from Prabhdeep which is a sure shot moshpit inducing track. Symbolically, Thappad marks the beginning of a new era in Prabh Deep’s discography [also his first non Azaadi release in a long time] and if this is a teaser, we can’t wait for the movie to come!
