DAKAITI – QUEST, LIL KABEER, BHAKTAAA, REVO LEKHAK, DHANJI & SAMMAD

The starting point of all achievement is desire. Be it acing your exam or robbing a bank, it all stems from a singular entity inside us called desire! “Dakaiti” is a song that celebrates this innate emotion of desire in different flavors. The song is a posse-cut collaboration between arguably the best riders of the beat in the underground scene today – Quest, Lil Kabeer, Bhaktaaa, Revo Lekhak, and the inimitable Dhanji!
Desi Hip Hop is seeing a proper posse cut after quite some time and with such talented names helming the project, this project was bound to be a banger!

Fresh off a rollicking old-school musical journey in 5 Sitara Pinjra, Sammad brings his A-game yet again in “Dakaiti”. A posse cut generally requires a banger loop of melody and a cracking drum snare in the background. The song starts off with low-pitched chords accompanied by percs in a metronome sequence making an authoritative start albeit with warmer undertones. The song then follows the same pattern as any other posse cut beat does and safe to say, the beat is catchy and exciting enough to not bore the listeners. Yet another W for Sammad!

DAKAITI – A Posse Cut in DHH after a long time!

Before I delve in deeper, let me explain what a posse cut is – A posse cut is a popular form of song in hip-hop music that involves successive verses by four or more rappers. Traditionally, a posse cut was used as an “All-Stars” device to bring together rappers who had respect for each other’s skills on the microphone, and “Dakaiti” was exactly the same featuring the most exciting underground rappers in the scene.

Quest starts off the proceedings with a verse full off fire and flex. His understanding of desire is what someone like 50 Cent would have. If you know, you know! Lil Kabeer then picks up the baton and pens an attention-stealing [pun intended] verse on desire where he is ready to do whatever it takes to get what he wants. Kabeer’s voice modulations and switches were the highlight! Bhaktaaa then picks up the baton and spits the most relatable verse of the song talking about the eternal middle-class problem of money, its shortage, and its desire.

Revo Lekhak is up next and undoubtedly comes up with the slickest rhyme scheme and cadence in the posse. He goes very aggressive in his verse flexing his superior skills and how others who desire his skills would never even come close to it! Dhanji finally ends the posse with exactly what only Dhanji can do. An unconventional flow, free-spirited lyricism, heavy gujju accent, and random shoutouts – Never change Dhanji! Safe to say, the beat was truly and thoroughly killed by everyone involved!
