Lust rushes, but love awaits. Lust, when hidden under the cloak of the secretly forbidden, is explosive and addictive and this is what “Monica” is all about! This surprise drop by Teesri Duniva is an expression of the lust, of the desire and longing inside us for the Monica of our lives albeit in a graceful manner. It was important for Udbhav and Karun to not mess this song with crass lyricism and thankfully, they kept their standards high and produced a banger. (pun intended)
MUSIC
17-year-old Lambo Drive gets producer credits for the lip-smacking music of Monica and I have only one question. How do you feel these intense emotions at the young age of 17 and translate them into music?
While the vocal melody and delivery were extremely catchy, it wouldn’t have been effective if there wasn’t a story conveyed by the beat. The initial train horn sound… extending the horn sound with the melody loop while the snare/drum pattern sounds like the sound that running trains make… the nuances were simply genius.
PS – The train symbolism was important because it represented the fast life (urges] and a common vehicle (emotion) for different destinations (purpose). Genius!
LYRICISM
The feeling of lust has always been perceived with negative connotations by our society. At times, it’s also considered a sinful desire but one cannot hide the fact that it is amongst the most natural emotions experienced by a human. Poets irrespective of time have recognized this and have always found creative and graceful ways to express lust. (*hotho se choo lo tum, mera geet amar kar do” comes to my mind!)
Udbhav and Karun have always been underrated as lyricists in the scene but I see them as modern-day poets who have the uncanny ability to convey emotions in the most polite manner. True Creativity lies in the ability to convey complex emotions in the simplest way possible and Teesri Duniya is extremely skillful at it.
